Do we have to have approval to offer GCE Applied ICT?
No approval is needed.
Is registration going to be like AVCE where we register students up-front for a specific qualification - AS (Single), AS (Double), A Level (Single), A Level (Double) and then make actual unit entries when students are ready to sit an examination or submit work for moderation?
Registration is similar to VCE. Details of all registration and entry procedures in the Information Manual. This has been sent out to Examinations Officers and can also be accessed at:
http://www1.edexcel.org.uk/imuk/
When will we have to submit coursework for moderation?
10 January 2006 is the first submission deadline - refer to the Information Manual for subsequent deadline dates.
My students would best suit a double AS award but does this affect their entry into universities?
Yes it will. Although they may come out with the same number of points overall, they won't have worked at A2 level which universities will expect for entry onto a degree course. It might be worth approaching your local university to find out if the AS (Double Award) would be accepted as an entry onto a HND or Foundation degree course.
Currently an AVCE students can fail a unit or not submit and still achieve the award if sufficient points are achieved. What will the situation be for GCE Applied ICT? Can the students not do the externally assessed units and still pass?
GCE Applied ICT is similar in this respect to VCE. A student's overall result is an aggregation of the marks achieved on individual units. There is no requirement for students to pass every unit providing they achieve a sufficient number of points overall. They should, however, be entered for the correct number of units.
What entry requirements would you recommend for GCE Applied ICT?
We recommend 4 GCSEs Grade C or above (or equivalent).
